Customised Solitaire LEGO Minifig

Solitaire is a character I play in a Champions game. His powers and personality are not so loosely based on Marvel Comics' character Deadpool, a mercenary with a rapid healing factor and a big mouth.

Champions requires miniatures to play out combats. I decided to create LEGO minifigures for my and my friends' characters, so we could stop using random items to represent our characters. The others I could do pretty well by combining existing LEGO elements, but I wanted to go the extra mile for Solitaire, so I decided to customise a LEGO minifig. I had done sketches of the character, whose look is also based on Deadpool (mixed a little with Matt Wagner's Grendel), so I knew all I'd really have to do the head.

I knew that the only thing I really needed to modify was the head. To be honest, I didn't know at the time if I would actually be able to find a red LEGO minifig head- but a brief trip to The Construction Site and I found that the 6836 V-Wing Fighter set would be a relatively cheap source for the heads. I bought a couple in case I made... umm, errors.

I used an X-Acto knife blade to scrape the large droid paint job from the face of the head. While this did dim the lustre of the plastic a bit, it also created a rough surface that I hoped would help to catch the paint. Next, I cut a paint mask from a piece of a sticker, and painted the black eye patterns in Testors Black model paint. I waited for those to dry, and put on the white eye dots in Polly-S Dragon White paint. Voila! Solitaire's head, in LEGO form.

I've always tried to be very careful with the haed, because I didn't put any sealer over the paint, but I haven't had any real issues with it as of yet, and it was used pretty heavily (once a week or so for a period of months) as a gaming miniature.

Solitaire often fights in combat with two custom machine pistols, while leaping around confusing his opponents with acrobatic stunts. He also uses katanas (see below) and also often carries high-tech gadgets designed for him by his partner, 'Warewolf.
